Categories of Membership
The Society has four classes of members. The designation of such classes and the qualifications and rights of the members of such classes are as follows:
Professional Membership
Open to professional women who are concerned with perpetuating and promoting quality programs in human movement (e.g., sport, dance, and exercise) and who support the goals and purposes of Western Society. Professional members are entitled to all the privileges of this Society including those of holding office, serving as chairs of standing committees, voting, attending conferences, and receiving publications of the Society.
Student Membership
Open to women students concerned with perpetuating and promoting quality programs in human movement (e.g., sport, dance, and exercise) and who support the goals and purposes of Western Society. Student members are entitled to all the privileges of Professional membership except holding office and serving as chairs of standing committees.
Emeritae Membership
Open to women retired from the institution with which she has been affiliated (according to the rules and regulations of that institution) within the province of human movement (e.g., sport, dance, and exercise) and who support the goals and purposes of Western Society. Such a membership shall be extended upon notification of retirement and shall continue indefinitely. Emeritae members are entitled to all the privileges of Professional membership.
Honorary Membership
Open to women retired from the institution with which she has been affiliated (according to the rules and regulations of that institution) within the province of human movement (e.g., sport, dance, and exercise) and who have given outstanding service to the Society (including such things as Executive Board membership, Chairing a committee, or effective mentoring). Honorary membership shall be awarded by the Executive Board. Honorary members are entitled to all of the privileges of Professional membership.
Admission to Membership
Women eligible for Professional and Student membership shall be deemed admitted to such membership upon payment of the first annual dues. Women eligible for Emerita membership shall be admitted to membership upon their retirement and in consultation with the Executive Board. Honorary members shall be admitted to membership upon their election by the Executive Board.
